To create a cleaner, more compliant downtown that reflects Riverton’s civic pride. Through the Adopt-a-Dumpster™ pilot, Riverton aims to reduce stormwater pollution, support local businesses, and beautify shared public spaces for residents and visitors alike.
Riverton — Downtown Commercial Pilot
Riverton’s downtown pilot targeted 45 high-traffic commercial enclosures suffering from frequent wet waste and runoff. Over a 10-week campaign, 30 dumpsters were sponsored and retrofitted with Secure Dumpster™ lids. Results: 30 dumpsters secured • 1,250,000 gallons of runoff prevented/year (modeled) • 12 local sponsors engaged • Average retrofit cost per site: $1,200 • Project duration: 10 weeks. Impact: downtown storefronts reported fewer odor complaints and two businesses avoided citation during routine stormwater inspections.
