If your dumpster is uncovered, leaking, or out of compliance, you’re not alone. Thousands of properties across California are facing new clean-water and stormwater regulations under the Clean Water Act, MS4, and SB-1383. The good news? You don’t have to pay for the entire retrofit yourself.

The Adopt-a-Dumpster™ program connects property owners like you with local sponsors, businesses, and community donors who help fund Secure Dumpster™ covers — waterproof, lockable lids that prevent polluted runoff, reduce odor, and keep your property inspection-ready.

Here’s how it works:

1. Submit Your Dumpster
   Click “Adopt My Dumpster” and fill out a short form with a short application, your location and a photo of your existing enclosure. This lets us verify eligibility, schedule an onsite visit and list your site on the public sponsorship map.

2. Get Matched With a Sponsor
   Once approved, your dumpster appears on the map as “Available for Sponsorship.” Local companies, nonprofits, or community members can choose to sponsor your retrofit. You can also share your listing directly with nearby businesses or partners who may want to help.

3. Retrofit Installation
   When funding is secured, a Secure Dumpster™ retrofit is installed on your enclosure. The installation includes waterproof lids, locking mechanisms, compliance labeling, and optional sponsor branding on the outside panels.

4. Stay Compliant and Connected
   We provide ongoing verification photos and optional maintenance services to ensure you remain compliant with MS4 and SB-1383 standards. Your business or property receives a digital certificate showing your participation and environmental contribution.

By registering your dumpster, you help protect local water quality, avoid fines, and demonstrate environmental responsibility — without the full cost of upgrades. Every covered dumpster represents cleaner neighborhoods, safer waterways, and a stronger local community.

If we can’t match you with a sponsor within 60 days, you’ll still have options for financing or partial assistance through our nonprofit partners. Either way, you’ll stay ahead of enforcement deadlines and show that your business is part of the solution.
